Before I get into describing the actual teas, I want to mention that Organic India was founded on the idea that they could create thousands of jobs in Northern India for low income workers by introducing the community to the practices of organic farming. Since they have begun educating and empowering the locals of Northern India, they have largely succeeded in their mission.
From what I can tell, it seems that Organic India is a force of good in India, and by extension, the rest of the world. I always like knowing a little about the company I am supporting, and after my initial research, I think I can feel good about how much I enjoy their teas.
I received 4 different blends of Tulsi tea from Organic India. Original, Peppermint, Pomegranate Green, and Jasmine. The original blend is lovely. It is made with three varieties of Tulsi (or Holy Basil), which is a herb that has been used in India for over 5,000 years as a “life-enhancing ingredient infused with healing powers”. Now, I can’t speak to its healing powers, having only drunk a few cups, but I can promise that it is delicious. It smells just a bit spicy, but other than that, it is hard to pick out a familiar smell or taste to compare it to. It is a very straightforward flavour, but has something lingering underneath that I, for one, couldn’t decipher. All said, I quite enjoyed it.
It was nothing, however, compared to the Jasmine blend. I love this tea. It has quickly become a daily staple in my house for our entire family. The box says it is “stress-relieving and enchanting”. I can definitely say it did both of those things for me. With a blend of chamomile, anise, and jasmine flower to round out the tulsi, this tea really just floored me. I actually prefer this one iced, although that’s a personal preference and it is just as good warm.
Both the Pomegranate Green and the Peppermint are delicious as well, and can claim “stress-relieving and invigorating” and “stress-relieving and refreshing” respectively.
In closing, I love these teas. They are delicious and good for the planet. I also love that Organic India uses pictures of their farmers on their boxes. It really made an impact on how much I appreciated where these teas have come from. You really can’t go wrong here!
I give the Organic India Tulsi Teas 5 out of 5 stars because of their commitment to a sustainable planet and the amazing flavour blends they have created.
