This April 19th, as part of Earth Week, there will be a motorcade driving through Washington, D.C. – but it won’t have anything to do with the President. Instead, this ‘Innovation Motorcade’ will serve to showcase the best in eco friendly cars and electric vehicles.

The Innovation Motorcade

On April 19th in Washington, D.C., the Innovation Motorocade event will kick off with a speech by Steven Chu, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy. After that, the motorcade of eco-friendly and electric vehicles will tour Washington D.C. The next day, Ray H. LaHood, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, will speak at the opening of the Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) Conference, where political leaders are gathering to enact policies that will speed up the adoption of electric vehicles and make eco-friendly cars the norm in the United States.

What cars you can expect to see

The Innovation Motorcade will feature electric vehicles from all of the most recognizable auto manufacturers (and some of the more obscure), including: Ecotality, Nissan, Audi, Ener1, Siemens, General Electric, BMW, General Motors, Tesla Motors, Toyota. Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, and many more. Suffice it to say, if there is an electric car on the market, it will likely be in the Innovation Motorcade.

The Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA)

The Electric Drive Transportation Association, or EDTA, is the organization behind this exciting event, and should get full credit for bringing the most notable electric automakers together to raise awareness about the electric options available to drivers today.

Further to that, the EDTA Conference, which will bring political leaders together to discuss the importance of getting more electric vehicles on the road represents a huge step forward, and we can only hope that the adoption of electric vehicles only takes off further from this Earth Week.

If you are going to be in Washington, D.C. on April 19th, be sure to hit the streets and check out the Innovation Motorcade driving down a street near you.
