If you’re a hybrid driver that’s unsure if you’re getting the most fuel efficiency out of your vehicle, Ford has the answer for you: a new dashboard device called the SmartGauge with EcoGuide. This new instrument cluster is designed to provide up-to-date and detailed information to maximize your fuel efficiency. There are 4 data screens on the device: Inform (for fuel level and battery charge status), Enlighten (electric vehicle mode indicator), Engage (engine output power vs battery output power), and Empower (power to wheels and accessory power consumption). This new device will be packed with the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Mercury Milan Hybrids in 2010. This technology sounds very similar to the Eco-Pedal proposed by Nissan and Travolution by Audi. So, is putting a bigger computer in your car the best way to make it environmentally friendly?
