As more and more studies pour in about the negative effects of bisphenol-A plastics on the body, it’s becoming clear that drinking from bottles made of the substance is just a bad idea. The problem is, nobody has stepped up and done anything about it – until now. Chicago is now the first city to put an outright ban on the sale of baby bottles and sippy cups made from bisphenol-A plastic. Even though the FDA has deemed it safe, studies have linked the chemical to accelerated puberty, cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. Stores like Wal-Mart and Babies R Us are already selling BPA-free baby products, and now Chicago City Council is recommending people throw out their existing BPA bottles and get new ones. I guess the jury is still out on this one, but if you want to play it safe, steer clear of bisphenol-A.
