In particular, to make a strong push for clean energy to produce “green collar jobs”. After his inauguration, it’s expected that President Obama and his advisors will come up with a recovery plan that will be worth hundreds of billions of dollars, with a green jobs component that may be worth as much as $100 billion itself. This amount of money will of course be spread out, but will cover things such as public transportation, buying and scrapping polluting cars, retrofitting schools and other government buildings up to green building standards, and even putting $900 million towards weatherizing a million residential homes. Let’s hope that the rest of the country sees the importance of this as well.
