From Monsanto to MSG, there are a million reasons to pay attention to your food.

Meet million and one.

People finding gross things in their grub hasn’t been the topic of conversation since this woman found a chicken’s head deep fried into a McNugget in Virginia in 2007. Sure she never did end up filing, and there were ample disputes about her claim, but the image is enough, isn’t it? (McD’s McMillion Dollar earnings disagree with me.)

In Seoul recently, a woman bit into a partially cooked squid (which is a whole other series of articles for me altogether, I tell you), and swiftly felt a strange stinging sensation in her mouth. Stinging and….”small, squirming” organisms. [*Shudder*] Doctors confirmed the woman had been orally inseminated in the mucus membranes of her mouth.

It’s not the first time sea semen’s been spewed into someone’s gums, nor the first time a weird object’s been found in food. Condoms, bandaids and fingertips were among the “extras” found in foods featured in the Huffington Post article.

This Women’s Day article is unfortunately one of many others available on the world wide web, adding fact to fear about the strange things some people have found in their foodstuff.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about 76 million Americans get sick each year from eating contaminated or improperly prepared foods.

So you see, it’s not just about ordering the right entrée or buying the right groceries; what happens to your food between farm and plate is just as important!
