Lately, every business has been cutting costs in any way it possibly can – unfortunately, mostly by cutting its work force. They’ve developed a tool called the Supply Chain Network Optimization Workbench (or SNOW for short) which analyzes a business’ data and distribution centers, and finds out whether its economically feasible to do the manufacturing themselves, or through a third party, which would ultimately cut shipping costs and emissions. As an example of the tool’s abilities, a Chinese logistics company cut distribution centers from 100 to 40, which cut its costs by 23% and its shipping emissions by 15%.
