Not to forget about our readers across the pond, today we have coverage of the Sunday Times’ 50 Best Green Companies in the UK. The list was compiled based on two aspects of the companies efforts: first, their environmental management policies, training, internal consultation, energy consumption, waste production and recycling, and secondly, their workers’ attitudes towards green issues. The first place winner is surprisingly a green coffin maker, JC Atkinson and Son, because they source their wood from sustainable forests, and the leftover wood that isn’t used in making coffins is burned to heat the building. Coming in second and third, respectively, are Carillion and Co-operative Financial Services. If the rest of the 47 entries are nearly as interesting as the first, it may be worth checking out, and giving some of these green companies your business!
