One of the most incredible environmental technologies to be introduced to date is graywater and rainwater catchment systems. If you’re not familiar with them, graywater refers to using filtered water from sinks, dishwashers, and laundry machines for irrigation or other home uses.  As more people begin to adopt the technology, and more firms begin specializing in graywater and rainwater catchment systems, even more groundbreaking ideas are coming to light.

Take for example WaterSprout, located in Oakland, California. They’re described as a landscaping firm that specializes in graywater, rainwater catchment, and irrigation efficiency, but some of the projects they have developed are brilliant. They’ve built a custom vertical living moss wall irrigation system at the California Academy of Sciences, natural water seep ponds, and wetland, sand filter and branched drain graywater systems. My favourite water system project by WaterSprout is definitely the ‘Parker Project’ in San Leandro, CA, in which two 500 gallon pillow tanks collect rainwater to be used for toilets and laundry use.

This revolutionary way to use water several times before it’s considered ‘waste water’ could help save natural resources, and even utility bills.
