Out of all of the construction taking place in Lower Manhattan right now, one of the most interesting skyscrapers popping up is located at 50 West Street. The $600 million building is on track to achieve LEED Gold status by the time the construction is finished in 2011 because of its green roof, water saving fixtures, automatic blinds, and energy saving techniques. The outside of the building will use a new energy efficient glass that makes the most of natural light, but blocks out UV rays that would normally raise the heat of the interior. If you’re interested in the process of the construction, check out some of the sites that follow every step of the process here. This building will definitely add a touch of green to the New York City skyline.
