If modern condominiums have become an eyesore for you, this new tree-inspired building by architects Sou Fujimoto ArchitectsNicolas Laisné Associés and Manal Rachdi Oxo should be a breath of fresh air. Dubbed “White Tree (L’Arbre Blanc)”, the building is clearly inspired by nature – in particular, the shape of a tree.

In this case, the tree’s branches give the inhabitants much more outdoor space than they would otherwise be granted in a traditional condo. According to the architects,

…the tower will feed off its locally available natural resources to drastically reduce the energy it needs to expend. It will devise passive strategies to induce comfort and use as well as control environmental impacts and scale back emissions. An unconventional yet dialectical process will passively cool units with solar fireplaces.

The building is planned for construction in Montpellier, France
