Now, SKYShades and solar film supplier Konarka have finished their year of testing and are beginning to mass produce the umbrellas fixed with flexible solar film. The power absorbed by the solar cells is stored in the stem of the Powerbrella and provides an outlet for laptops, cell phones, or any other devices to be plugged into and used away from buildings or extension cords. Right now they’re targeting hotels, resorts, and cafés as their primary customers for the Powerbrella, but if you really want one for your own back yard they’ll be available to order this fall.
