Yesterday a huge group of GreenPeace supporters were looking for a way to increase funding for stopping climate change, and it ended with 350 of them in jail. The protest took place at European Union headquarters in Brussells, and involved many GreenPeacers chaining themselves to the front gates while chanting “Save the climate, bail out the planet”. The demonstration comes as a response to the global financial crisis, and the willingness of governments around the world to spend tax-payer money on bailing out broke financial institutions. As one protester commented, “if the planet were a bank they would bail it out”. Unfortunately, the more money that goes to the struggling banks means less money left over to help fight climate change. Hopefully the protest helped raise awareness to the people who will make the right decisions.
