Here it is: you were helping to save the planet by making biofuels. The Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in California has been working with the E-fuel Corporation and will be pumping out high quality ethanol from leftover beer yeast later this year. Normally, the 1.6 million gallons of beer yeast goes to local farmers to feed the animals (or at least get them a bit tipsy), but when the yeast goes into the MicroFueler, its alcohol content doubles and increases the amount of ethanol it can produce. This is good news for everyone worried that our crops are going to waste to produce fuel – now it’s just whatever we leave in the bottom of the barrels.
