When it comes to environmental topics, there’s not really a bigger authority than David Suzuki – that’s why it’s newsworthy that he has recommended an article written by Bob McDonald, the host of CBC science radio’s Quirks and Quarks, titled “Deflating some misconceptions about wind power.”

The short article states bluntly, “[Wind turbines] do not make noise, they don’t kill birds and if they are sitting two kilometers off shore they’re not intrusive on the landscape.” Suzuki himself echoes this claim and points out that the number of birds or bats that were killed by older models of wind turbines is miniscule compared to the massive number of birds that have been killed by buildings, power lines, and house cats.

He believes that global warming caused by fossil fuel usage is going to kill far more birds than some offshore wind turbines will. And that’s that.
