A new service has launched for the greater Portland area called Green Renter that helps potential home renters find a place that matches their environmental needs, along with their housing needs. Their site matches up home or building owners that have taken steps to make their property more self-sustainable with the people who want to live in a place that values the environment as much as they do. The best part of the system is that it doesn’t require properties to have LEED status to be listed. In fact, you only need to meet one out of the seven criteria (energy, water, bulding materials, operations, building surroundings, certifications and awards, other innovative green features) to be considered green enough to rent. If you’re in the Portland area, this is a service you should definitely check out – and let’s hope that it spreads out to other cities soon too.
