McCartney: Vegetarianism Can Help Global Warming

Paul McCartneyToday, Reuters is reporting that during an interview with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), Paul McCartney expressed his surprise that more emphasis isn’t being placed upon the effect that the meat production industry is having on our climate problems. McCartney said, “It’s very surprising that most major environmental organizations are leaving the option of going vegetarian off their lists of top ways to curtail global warming.” Keep reading for information on the impact the cattle industry is having on our planet.

One of the major problems with the meat industry is the amount of land, food resources, and water that are used to sustain the lives of animals that are bound for a meat packing plant anyways. According to a 2006 United Nations report, more greenhouse gases were produced by the cattle industry than by transportation!

While that does seem like a significant contribution to the climate problem, I’m not sure how ready the majority of the world would feel about switching to vegetarianism. What are your thoughts on the subject?
