Buying (and drinking!) a carton of Silk soy milk is not only an injection of much-needed protein for your body. It looks like the purchase may help reduce your carbon footprint as well.

The company has partnered with Tree Canada to help plant more trees. And to inspire Canadians to reduce their carbon footprint, the partnership has created a Carbon Calculator on Facebook which:

  • Asks Canadians to pledge to reduce their carbon footprint by choosing 1 of 7 options, such as avoid buying bottled water.
  • Calculates the environmental impact their pledge will make.

The calculator can be found at Silk Canada’s Facebook Page.

For every pledge, Silk says it will donate an additional $1 to Tree Canada to plant more trees.

Silk is a brand of soy milk and other dairy-substitute products, including soy yogurt and almond milk. The Colorado-based company is known for its green business practices. Silk has been a five year recipient of the Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. It has also been an active supporter of FarmAid for 10 years.
