Development of the smart power grid in the U.S. is expected to improve reliability and efficiency of power distribution, making the most use of the energy being produced, while avoiding blackouts from overconsumption. But while these benefits are often touted, some of the challenges associated with the smart grid – namely, cyber security and privacy – aren’t addressed nearly as often.
