As cities continue to sprawl outwards, it’s obvious that nature has to make some sacrifices. But what may not be obvious are the effects that urbanization has on those that live in the cities, too. Air pollution, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and the “heat island effect” are all a result of increased urbanization.

And unfortunately, the trend for urbanization is only going to get worse, with projections showing that between 64.1% and 85.9% of the developing and developed world will be urbanized.
