Critics of solar energy decry it as an expensive and inefficient substitute for our current fossil fuel based approach. But recent advances in photovoltaic technologies have both increased efficiency and reduced the amount of land required for sufficient generation.

In fact, every day solar energy is playing a more prominent role in meeting our energy needs. On June 9, 2014, over half of Germany’s energy demands were met by solar power, an unprecedented feat which begs the question: Could the world one day be 100% solar?
