Green coffee is the raw seeds of the Coffea fruits. These raw seeds are cleaned, roasted, and then ground up, ready to be brewed into coffee. Scientists have proclaimed that the raw seed extract can aid in weight loss.

Research Using the Green Coffee Bean Extract

The most recent publication about the green coffee bean extract was published at the first of the year in 2012. In a study done on adults with diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and or obesity, the research showed that in 12 weeks the average weight loss was around 18 pounds.

A popular TV show, The Dr. Oz Show, wanted to test the effects of this green coffee bean extract. The project was run with the guidance of the show’s experts and doctors and was considered one of the largest projects the show has ever run.

With instructions given to each one to take only 400 mg capsules, three times a day, 30 minutes before they eat. All women were told to like they usually do and to keep a journal of all the food they had eaten on a day to day basis.

In two weeks time, all women were brought in to do a weigh in. The group of women that took the green bean coffee extract lost an average of 2 pounds. The group of women taking the placebo lost an average of one pound.

  1. Many companies have jumped on the green bean coffee extract, marketing their own brand of the fat burning extract. But don’t let some of these companies fool you. Consumers should know exactly what they are getting without all the fancy fluff and being stuck with an ineffective product.
  2. When looking for the infamous green coffee bean extract, always look at the ingredients. In order to make sure the extract is genuine, look for the ingredients chlorogenic acid extract. Other names for this ingredient is GCA (green coffee antioxidant) or Svetol.
  3. Make sure that product contains at least 45% of chlorogenic acid. More is okay, but if the percentage is less than 45, it becomes less effective.
  4. Never purchase a bottle that doesn’t list the ingredients. Chances are it is a fake and a total waste of money. Never purchase items that claim to be pure. If a product has the claim of pure but doesn’t have the ingredient chlorogenic acid listed, then look for another product.
  5. Chlorogenic acid has shown to significantly stabilize blood sugar spikes post meal. Research has shown that is has a 32% reduction in spiking blood sugars after eating. This means it can lower what was considered a high, post-meal sugar spike of 160 mg/dl, to a positive and safer 109 mg/dl. Better energy, mental performance, and overall improved metabolism can come just from taking the green coffee bean extract.
  6. Dosages vary as well. They come in 200, 400, 800 mg, and so on. Clinical trials have shown some success with 200 mg. The Dr. Oz Show followed the 400 mg, three times a day before eating. The number one thing to remember when doing this diet is keeping a food journal. It keeps people more aware of what they are consuming each day.
