If you’re a vegetarian, you might be intrigued by this news. If you’re a vegetarian in India, you might want to go check it out for yourself…

McDonald’s Corp. has announced it will open up its first vegetarian-only restaurants across the bumbling and colourful landscape that is India. The unveiling is scheduled to happen sometime next year.

The world’s biggest hamburger chain says the locations will serve only vegetarian food because of customer preferences in the region. But the company stopped short of announcing exactly when the restaurants would open or how many there would be.

McDonald’s says its kitchens in India are already separated into sections for cooking vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. None of its restaurants there sell any beef or pork.

India’s McDonald’s options cater to local tastes. The franchise has the popular “Maharaja Mac”, which is basically a Big Mac made with chicken patties. Although us Westerners could never fathom Mickey D’s without the beef, the pared down menu is a big hit with the locals. I imagine the chain’s vegetarian-only restaurants will be hugely popular too.
