6 Environmentally Friendly Travel Items to Pack for Your Next Trip

As you prepare for your next trip and stock up on travel-sized essentials, be kind to the environment by shopping for green products. According to a survey, more than 70 percent of Americans want to reduce their carbon footprints, but they aren’t always sure where to start.

Comfort Essentials

If you have a long trip ahead, you might have your plane tickets and car rental all reserved, but you might want to pick up a travel sleep mask and blanket, since most of the major airlines don’t offer these anymore. Plus, even if your airline does, they might be made of a scratchy material or be too small to wrap up and stay warm. A bamboo grass option is both hypoallergenic and biodegradable, and is extra soft for added comfort.

Keep Your Electronics Going

Depending on your destination, you might not have an available outlet at all times during your vacation. The Solio BOLT charger has solar panels that collect energy, and it can connect to any USB device for a quick recharge. Merkury Innovations also has Eco Speakers, which are made of 70% recycled cardboard materials. You can choose between several designs, or you can buy plain brown which come with colored pencils that you can use to customize your own design.

Paperblank makes hand-stitched journals, which fit nicely in your pocket, and are made of fast-growing pine trees. Additionally, the company donates 10% of profits to a range of charities, including Doctors Without Borders.

Stay Hydrated

Whether you are backpacking through a jungle or walking through an amusement park on a warm day, you will want to make sure you and your family members are drinking plenty of water. It is expensive to purchase multiple bottles, and the added trash is no friend to the environment. Instead, you can buy refillable and reusable bottles, such as those made by Sigg, which have fun messages printed on the bottles. You can also pick up a portable water purifier, such as the Steripen Traveler, which uses AA batteries and UV light. It purifies up to 200 liters per set of batteries.

Eco-Friendly Apparel

Before you head to the airport, make sure to fill your suitcase with comfortable and soft travel clothing. Yale Designs has a clothing line made from bamboo fabrics, and Teeki yoga pants are made of recycled plastic bottles and have unique and fun designs. It’s best to choose natural fibers, including organic cotton or hemp.

Stay on Schedule

If you rely on an alarm clock to wake up, but you are traveling to a location in which electricity may be limited, check out the Bedol Water alarm clock. This unique product will work as long as you add water, and a single refill will last up to six months. It’s a great alternative to trying to find a plug for your clock or to charge your phone in order to make sure you wake up on time.

Traveling with eco-friendly products helps you reduce your impact on the environment, no matter where in the world you are staying.
